Emma Mitchell

Emma Mitchell is a senior at the University of Northern Iowa studying Psychology with a specialized focus on Gender and Sexuality.

During the 2024 Legislative Session, she was awarded the University of Northern Iowa Diversity Matters Award, as well as a nomination for the National John Lewis Youth Leadership Award.

On top of this as a national scholar, she dedicates herself to enhancing rural education opportunities for queer youth and researching student activism burnout. Emma's commitment to advocacy and education drives her work towards fostering inclusive communities and empowering marginalized voices.

In 2023, Emma founded the Iowa Queer Student Alliance and has loved watching the organization grow into the community it has become.
